US Foods Driver, Straight Truck - CDL Class B in Buffalo, New York
The primary function of this position is to drive a straight truck and manually unload, using a hand truck or two-wheeler on metal truck ramps, various products (meats and/or seafood to customer drop-off sites while providing excellent customer service. All functions must be completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
* ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES * (Each item should account for 10% or more)
Perform allpre-trip responsibilities including: obtaining and reviewing driveritinerary, checking route numbers and account numbers for assigned deliveries,counting items and checking customer invoices of products that have beenloaded, performing pre-trip safety check inspections of truck according toDepartment of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Drive to anddeliver customer orders to meet the scheduled customer times and maintainadequate productivity rate to meet delivery schedules. Use electronictime keeping system to log in time at customer site.
Visually surveycustomer's site during the approach to determine hazards.
Unload productsfrom the truck with a hand truck or by hand and place items in designatedcustomer storage areas.
Verify deliveryof correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Contactdivision management for authorization of invoice discrepancies and communicateall errors and returns.
As requested bymanagement, drive backhauls which requires picking up product from vendors andbring back to warehouse for receiving while staying within DOT Hours of Service(HOS) regulations.
Return truck todivision when route is completed.
Perform allpost-trip responsibilities: unloading damaged goods and customer returns andcompleting necessary paperwork; performing safety checks on the truck andtrailer, fueling (as required by the division); parking and securing vehicle;completing DOT logs (electronic or manual as required) and company vehiclemaintenance reports (DVIR) and reconcile these with the appropriate companyrepresentative as required.
Attend allrequired company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and companypolicies.
Follow divisionshift times, Monday – Friday and 2:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m., and continue until thework is completed within DOT HOS regulations.
Mustsatisfactorily complete all company mandated trainings and assessments.

Education/Training * : * High School Diploma/GEDpreferred. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English as itrelates to the job and to the safety regulations. Must have basic mathskills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and ability to work with money collectedfrom customers to ensure the amount collected matches the invoicedamount. Must have a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class B issuedby the state of legal residence with the necessary endorsements and be DOTqualified.
Minimum 1 yearcommercial driving experience required or six months foodservice or food andbeverage delivery experience required. Experience delivering food productspreferred.
Must be able touse, or learn to use, all equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) i.e.XATA, POD, and tools used to perform the job.Must be able toperform all job functions safely. Must be able to work thescheduled/assigned times and required overtime for the position. Mustknow/have ability to learn material safety data sheet information regarding allmaterial used within the scope of the work. Must have excellentcustomer service skills. Must be at least 21 years of age. Mustsuccessfully complete the DOT written examination for drivers and pass acontrolled substance abuse screening test. Must be able to work inextreme weather conditions, including applying tire chains if needed. Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
No more thantwo convictions in the past two year period for traffic violations. Nomore than one of these may be a serious (as defined by DOT) violation or resultof an accident - company or private vehicle; No DUI convictions within pastthree years, regardless of type of vehicle operated; no driver's licensesuspension within past three years (insurance and overweight tickets are excluded);and no termination by previous employer for failure to comply with safetyregulations or for accident involvement for the past three years.
