US Foods Regional Driver (Northeast area) in Norwich, Connecticut
The primary function of this position is to drive a tractor trailer interstate for the purpose of picking up and delivering various products (meats, produce, frozen foods, dry goods, equipment and supply) from vendors and company distribution centers. All functions must be completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Routes most frequently will be multi-day over the road assignments.
Perform all pre-trip responsibilities including: obtaining and reviewing driver itinerary, moving tractors to the loading dock to attach the preloaded trailers, verify freight on truck and verify required trailer temperatures, and performing pre-trip safety check inspections of trucks and trailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Drive to vendor locations and company drop-off sites and deliver products according to predetermined routes and stay within DOT hours of service (HOS) regulations. Use electronic time keeping system to log in time at stop site.
Visually survey Vendor and Company distribution centers during the approach to determine hazards.
Perform all post-trip responsibilities: completing necessary paperwork as necessary; perform safety checks on the truck and trailer; fuel (as required by the division); unhook and secure trailer; park and secure tractor and hand truck; complete Department of Transportation (DOT) logs (electronic or manual as required) and company vehicle maintenance reports (DVIR) and reconcile these with the appropriate company representative as required.
Attend all required company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
Follow division shift times and continue until the work is completed within DOT HOS regulations. Some Holiday, Saturday, Sunday, and overnight deliveries may be required.
Must satisfactorily complete all company mandated trainings and assessments.

Education/Training:High School Diploma/GED preferred, however, must be able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations. Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Must have a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), class A, issued by state of legal residence. Must meet the medical requirements of the Department of Transportation (DOT). Must be willing to work flexible hours.
Related Experience/Requirements:Minimum six months over the road commercial driving experience or six months with a beverage delivery company or as a foodservice delivery representative required. Must not have more than two convictions in the past two year period for moving traffic violations; not have a DUI conviction in the past three years (regardless of type of vehicle operated); not have driver’s license suspended for traffic violations with the past three years. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) i.e. XATA, and tools used to perform the job. Must know/have ability to learn MSDS information regarding all material used within the scope of the work. Must be able to apply tire chains. Must be able to perform coupling procedures (drop and hook). Must possess customer service skills.
