US Foods Paralegal - Lead in Rosemont, Illinois

Job Description:

Basic Purpose-

This position will provide legal support, research and writing to the litigation attorneys within the USF Legal Department. This position will provide case management of the litigated matters filed on behalf of or in defense of USF, including answering discovery and other requests for production. The assignments and responsibility require direct contact with internal and external clients, as well as outside counsel, the ability to handle complex legal issues, the ability to work with significant independence and a candidate who possesses critical judgment.

Description-

Handle complex legal issues in all aspects of the litigation portfolio

Compile monthly litigation and quarterly litigation reports, including reports summarizing the status of the litigation portfolio, report on any pre-litigation claims, requests for authority and summary of court deadlines.

Provide support to litigation attorneys, outside counsel, the company's Third Party Administrator and internal clients on any threatened and pending litigated matters

Draft, review and edit all legal documents to include correspondence, memoranda and spreadsheets

Assist attorneys in responding to lawsuits, discovery requests and subpoenas by investigating facts, reviewing responsive documents and coordinating production of the documents

Assist outside counsel, internal clients and in house legal team in reviewing and drafting pleadings and discovery responses in all matters

Assist as needed in maintaining and preparing reports and summaries for company compliance

Coordinate with outside counsel on the schedule of mediations and other personal appearances for attorney staff

Perform legal research and draft memoranda of findings regarding legal analysis and application to particular issues

Draft cease and desist/demand letters and respond to the same issued by a potential claimant

Perform legal research as needed

Assist the Litigation team Administrative Assistant in scheduling and maintaining calendars, coordinating travel and related arrangements

Provide back up support to other paralegals in the legal department as needed

Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications-

Education/Training:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.Paralegal certificate or equivalent preferred

Related Experience/Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of litigation paralegal experience with a corporate legal department or law firm required.
  • Minimum 2 years of prior supervisory experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have strong knowledge and experience with Internet research
  • Independent/hands on experience drafting pleadings, discovery, memoranda and legal correspondence with minimum supervision
  • Ability to express, whether written or oral, complex legal issues in clear concise language
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Demonstration of superior organizational skills
  • Demonstration of excellent communication skills - written and oral
  • Self-motivated and independent thinker
  • Prior experience using case management system a plus
  • Must be able to Interface with outside counsel and internal clients via phone and email
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Outstanding judgment and discretion with confidential matters
  • Strong background and experience with a variety of software, including MS office Suite, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
